Vesi Safe Approach Distances (Vesi Skills And Training Guidelines)

The unit is designed to provide participants with the required skills and knowledge to recognise various voltages and apply network safe approach distances (SAD) applicable to their authority level.

The Green and Blue books will be used as primary reference points along with discussion about local policies and practices and how they are impacted by the requirements of the Green and Blue Books.

This unit is a particular requirement of Victorian Electricity Supply Industry (VESI)

This unit is designed to enable participants to meet the regulatory requirements to enable them to work within the VESI framework. People seeking work that include working on or in close proximity to the electrical supply networks may be assisted in their efforts to obtain work in these industries by the completion of this course.

Benefits to Business:

Electrical supply network owners require that work undertaken in proximity to their assets is performed by people who are suitably qualified. This unit of competency meets part of that expectation.

The unit provides participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake work, when authorised by the network owner, in accordance with the SAD specified in the Green Book.

Upon completion of this unit, the participant (when authorised) will be able to:
• Work up to the SAD as specified in the Green Book
• Recognise different voltages operating in the network and to adjust SAD appropriately
• Understand the different clearance specified in the Green Book in relation to plant, operating plant, vehicles, trees and personal clearances
