Vesi Safe Approach To Swer (Vesi Skills And Training Guidelines)

This unit is designed to enable participants to meet the regulatory requirements to enable them to work within the VESI framework. People seeking work that include working on or in close proximity to the electrical supply networks may be assisted in their efforts to obtain work in these industries by the completion of this course.

Benefits to Business:

Electrical supply network owners require that work undertaken in proximity to their assets is performed by people who are suitably qualified. This unit of competency meets part of that expectation.

The unit provides participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to be able to apply safe work practices associated with SWER systems.

Upon completion of this unit, the participant (when authorised) should be able to:
• Safely approach apparatus with phase to earth systems (SWER)
• Identify electrical hazards related to earthing systems
• Apply the procedure to energise a SWER substation following earthing system repairs (should this be required)

Unit Overview:

This unit provides the participant with an understanding of the issues associated with SWER HV Earthing installation and the need to undertake a “Safe to Approach” inspection and test procedure prior to approaching these structures.

The emphasis is on the practical application of the safe approach test and the use of the appropriate equipment and PPE to undertake the testing procedure.

This unit is a particular requirement of Victorian Electricity Supply Industry (VESI)
