Recognise plants (AHCPCM201) gives you the knowledge to identify commonly encountered plants. Learn to carry out a visual assessment of a plant and recognise it by its identifiable features. Recognise both weeds and desired plants, examine plant morphology and record the plant’s identity according to your workplace needs.

Recognise plants (AHCPCM201) is a competency within the Certificate II in ESI – Powerline Vegetation Control.

What will I learn during Recognise plants?

Interlink’s course teaches you to recognise plants by examining their habits, characteristics and significant features. Carry out a visual inspection and learn to identify a range of desirable and non-desirable plants.

Learn to describe and name the identifiable characteristics of commonly encountered plants. Record and reference observations, take samples and to use field guides and other sources, such as the internet, to accurately recognise plants.

During your studies you will document information discovered about plants, take workplace notes and add to your reference collection.

What sort of assessments can I expect to complete?

Interlink’s Recognise plants (AHCPCM201) course contains a combination of written and practical assessments.

Written assessments test your knowledge of learning elements including:

  • Plant recognition techniques, principles and practices
  • Botanical terms to describe plants
  • Plant characteristics and morphology
  • Methods for finding out information about plants and giving advice to others
  • Taxonomic classification.

Practical assessments require you to demonstrate key performance criteria such as:

  • Correctly identifying desirable and non-desirable plants
  • Recognising and describing specific plant attributes
  • Describing the care and growth requirements of plants
  • Completing a recognition activity using your prepared resources and processes
  • Using research methods to help recognise plants
  • Documenting your findings.

Assessment are conducted within realistic, workplace settings and are held over the duration of the unit.
